Lionel Messi was born on 24 June 1987; he started his football career in 1995 at Newell’s Old Boys in Rosario, Argentina. Messi wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth but he was destined for greatness. The young talent showed great promise, however a hormonal problem that affected his growth was a serious concern for his family, and future in football. When he was diagnosed with hormone deficiency, he grew the right mindset.
Where most would have given up, Messi thrived. His parents were not able to foot his medical bill, and even the wealthiest Argentine teams were not willing to afford the medical expenses of the young boy. At the age of 13, Lionel Messi moved across crossed the Atlantic to try his luck in Barcelona. He made sacrifices by leaving his country, family and friends to start a new life. He changed everything. But everything he did, he did for football, to achieve his dream." After his first trial, the Catalan club had seen enough. Barcelona signed Messi to play for the club Under 14s, and offered to pay for his medical treatment. He signed his first contract with Barcelona on a used napkin.
Messi never had smooth path to glory. Lionel Messi used his Challenges and obstacles to motivate and encourage himself. He shows that the strongest, tallest or fastest physical structures are not obligatory to be the best in your field. He avoids being discouraged by his height as he leveraged his unorthodox size to his advantage. Messi’s legs allow him to change directions faster and keep an unmatched level of balance. He was shorter than his teammates and opponents, but instead of making it an excuse or feel self-pity, he used it to give him that extra boost of drive. Messi explains “Something deep in my character allows me to take the hits and get on with trying to win.” Messi obviously has a burning desire for anything to do with football as he once stated "Money is not a motivating factor. Money doesn't thrill me or make me play better because there are benefits to being wealthy. I'm just happy with a ball at my feet. My motivation comes from playing the game I love. If I wasn't paid to be a professional footballer I would willingly play for nothing."
He made his first appearance for Barcelona at the age of 16 and became the youngest player to appear in La Liga at the age of 17 when he debuted in October 2004. His growth was sequential within Barca, and he made remarkable progress rising through the ranks in Barcelona Fc from Barca team C, followed by Barca Team B and finally the first team.
Lionel Messi has humble beginnings which he used to overcome his physical weaknesses to become one of the greatest football players of all time. At the age of 25, Messi has achieved several titles and has already been crowned World Player of the Year four times. Passion for the Game stands to be the most pertinent ingredient for Lionel Messi's greatness.
